Franchesca and Josh | An Al Fresco Wedding At Walnut Grove Weddings, Moorpark, California

We were so delighted to see Franchesca and Josh's al Fresco Ranch wedding featured on the stunning fine art blog, Dear Gray Magazine recently! I wanted to take a minute to share a few of my favorite things about this lovely day with you as well as share my favorite photos from their day.

An Al Fresco Ranch Wedding in Southern California

I love outdoor weddings. I love the challenges of utilizing light as it progresses throughout a day, I love that we get to actually photograph lovely things in lovely light. Too often, the best light (sunset) is used for seating guests and toasts during indoor weddings.

But with an outdoor wedding, even if there are toasts happening, we are photographing them in soft lighting. Add in the al fresco setting of Tierra Rejada Ranch, southern california's beautiful weather, and I'm in heaven!

Franchesca's Fine Art Aesthetic

Franchesca had a distinct, thoughtful design aesthetic from the moment we met. She labeled her concept as "dreamy with a sense of age," but what she didn't understand was that many of her choices render well on film.

From the soft blue-gray dresses, and the lush creamy florals, to the textures of aged silver, patina'd brass, and aged brick, everything had an impressionistic feel that naturally compliments the pastel tones and buttery textures of film.

Compromising for the one you love

While she talked through her ideas with her fiance, Josh, he asked her for one thing. As a former member of the armed forces in active duty overseas, he wanted the American Flag somehow represented in the day.

Franchesca reworked the color palette (she originally wanted blush. I love this so much more!), found a lovely vintage flag for behind the bar, and ensured that everything flowed together effortlessly so Josh could have his one request.
